Your chances of getting cheap airfare for the coming summer airfare are not too high as American Airlines, US Airways, Delta Air Lines, Continental, JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines have hiked their prices. Airfare rise is attributed to the political turmoil in middles east and the consequent increase in oil prices.
Not only is airfare rising, the limit for e bag has gone down from 50 to 40 pounds. Along with higher airfares, the airlines are also using charges for other services to increase revenues. Checked bags and other services earned 9.2 billion for the airlines in 2010.
As the airfares continue to rise, the old travel guide's wisdom 'buy tickets on Tuesdays' doesn't work either. The only way to travel cheap is waiting for the peak travel season to end and buy tickets later.
