There's also a competition on the Go Gap Year site where you can win travel books and USB memory sticks.
Another useful service for travellers is Locate where gappers can register details of their trip as well as the emergency contact details for family which assist the the FCO to finding you in the event of a crisis and enable them to inform your next of kin of the situation. This service is available to all British travellers.
The FCO appear to have made a effort to design a site which is more palatable to young people planning their gap year than a typical Government site lecturing you on the does and don't of gap year travel.

For students and employees contemplating taking a gap year, a very useful resource is http://www.firstgapyear.com
. The site has useful information on making the decision to take a gap year as well as travel planning, accommodation, travel safety, travel health and much more.

It's a very cool search engine which is known for it's flight search. But now Momondo's search also includes trains in Europe which helps us saving money and contributes to the environment at the same time. Check it out, www.momondo.com
