When I think of Jordan the first place that springs to mind is the rose city of Petra, carved into the rock. However the capital city of Jordan, Amman is beginning to make it's presence felt as a visitor destination.

Amman is one of the oldest cities in the world with archaeological evidence that there has been a settlement here since 3500 B.C. The city is similar to Rome is that it was built on seven hills but Amman sits between the desert and the verdant Jordan valley. You can visit historic sites such as the Roman Theatre, the Nymphaeum and the Citadel. There are many small workshops run by local artisans were you can buy hand crafted jewelry. There's also the ultra modern commercial centre.
One of the best ways to see the city is by using the Hop on and off City Bus Tour which covers 45 destinations around the city, running from 10:00 to 20:00 during the Summer and until 18:00 during Winter.
Have you visited Amman? What did you like and dislike about it?
