Boring Canada
Filed in archive Destination: Canada on February 17, 2009
I have to begin by admitting that I don't often think of running off to visit Canada. Jamaica, maybe Ireland, perhaps Malaysia or Thailand, or maybe even Mexico. But not Canada.
World Hum had a piece last month that's made me reconsider my disposition to America's northern neighbor. The article lists eight reasons why Canada is not boring. The article take a look at culture and cuisine. But it also looks at some of Canada's natural beauty - its parks and coastlines. It's an interesting read and gave me pause...

I went to Canada once to a convention in Toronto. Before I went so many Canadians told me how boring Toronto is. Arriving with such low expectations I was surprised at what a great city Toronto is. I can't wait to see the rest of Canada now.

Every place has something different to offer, so I believe. It's just if you would take the effort to explore. The maple leaf tour itself would be attractive to me. :)

British Colombia has some of the most magnificent scenery and wildlife. I think of it as the American West magnified and would recommend everyone to experience it. Can't wait to explore more of Canada!

You need to have a tolerence for colder temperatures. winters go to
-20 somtimes and if you can only swim in hot tubs then don\'t go swimming. Go on a camping trip and your life will be fufilled.

Canada does attract a disproportionate number of people that are escaping something, be it poor standard of living, or political persecution. While it is noble that they are better able to provide for their families, it does not have the same benefit, as do skilled workers / craftsmen, who have more ability to innovate. If it were not for its wealth of natural resources, Canada would be a 3rd world country itself.
