Why Not Stay Away?
by Melissa Petri on October 4, 2007

This is a picture of Band-e Amir, meaning "Dam of the Amir". It's located 75 kms from the Buddhas of Bamyan. These important sites are in included in Lonely Planet's Travel Guide to Afghanistan. Apart from visiting the famed Buddhas, you also have an option to get to know Kabul, Afghanistan's capital through the "Great Game Tours" that ends at the national stadium.
Although it might seem unusual to actually publish a travel guide about this war-torn nation, since not much people apart from soldiers and journalists are willing to travel to this country. I assume that this travel guide wasn't made for dare-devil travelers nor for jackass actors, but for people working for aid organizations and other companies and organizations that are there other than to help.
The 244-page travel guide was authored by Paul Clammer who initially visited Afghanistan in 2001.
