New Mexico company Earthship Biotecture specialises in creating environmentally friendly, solar and thermodynamically powered homes, called Earthships.

"The Earthship is a completely independent globally oriented dwelling unit made from materials that are indigenous to the entire planet."

My first though on reading that was, " As opposed to being made from materials from other planets?" Translated from the alien tongue of Marketer, what they're really saying is: this building is made from recycled materials. Mostly old tyres as it turns out, which are apparently quite good heating and cooling conductors.

In order to give prospective buyers a chance to try out the Earthship buildings, the manufacturer is offering hotel reservations in one of two showhomes. Rates are $175 a night or $1000 a week. What do you get for your money, besides a vacation in Taos?

"The Hut Earthship is a fully equipped and functional Earthship with a fully functional kitchen wherein you are given the opportunity to experience just what living in an Earthship would be like. In this home you will have everything that you need to experience life in an Earthship. Please note that food and drink are not provided."

Because aliens, obviously, don't need to eat.
