If you think that traveling across India would be chaotic, or just like how they show Indian trains in the news, then you better think again. If you're expecting cramped and not so clean accommodations, then you're in for a big surprise. Off with the stereo-typical Indian trains, the trains that news agencies often show on television, and welcome the marvelous and extravagant luxury trains that will take you through several regions in one trip.
The luxurious Deccan Odyssey offers guests splendid accommodations and an unforgettable 8-day odyssey through Maharashtra and Goa. From the vast and modern city of Mumbai, guests will be taken to historical forts, beaches, a Basilica, museums, the Aga Khan Palace (where Mahatma Ghandi was incarcerated), World Heritage sites, shopping, and a vineyard.
A complete historical experience awaits you. Let yourself led by the Deccan Odyssey into a hypnotic Maharashtra experience.

I’ve been on both trains, the ‘Deccan Odyssey’ and the ‘Palace on Wheels’. The Deccan Odyssey is, like you say, an experience in luxury, but the locations and stops on the Palace on Wheels tour are far better than those on the Deccan Odyssey.
