Hotel Rehab for Blackberry Users
Filed in archive Destination: US on June 9, 2006
In the midst of a Glorious trend where hotels are adding technology at a truly fantastic (and wonderful) rate, the Sheraton Hotel Chicago has a new program to take away technology.
Apparently hotel manager Rick Ueno became so addicted to his Blackberry that he eventually decided he needed to make a complete break - and dumped the CrackBerry for a regular mobile phone.
Having decided that Sheraton guests might similarly enjoy taking a break from their gadgets, or even join him in his cold turkey crusade, the Sheraton is now offering guests a special check in service: for their PDAs.
Guests can now surrender their Blackberries, mobiles or any other gadgets, which will be secured in the hotel manager's office safe for the duration of their stay. Ueno maintains that his own quality of life is now better post BlackBerry, and hopes that guests' lives may be similarly enhanced - if only while they're guests of the hotel.
Personally I want more technology in my hotel life - wifi, iPods, PVR and TiVos- not less, but I know a stressed out doctor or two who could really benefit from this.
