Jazz Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis is coming to London this month, and he's bringing his group, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchastra, with him. They're planning to establish a permanent base in London and begin a residency at the Barbican Center on Silk Street from June 17 to 20. Hat tip to Gridskipper for the heads up on this.

Wynton and his friends will be in concert during that time: swing dancing at Stoke Newington Town Hall, jam sessions at the Vortex in Dalston, and a family concert at Hackney Empire. They will also offer classes and workshops at schools throughout London's East End. Tickets to the events range in price from £10 to £35.

Wynton Learson Marsalis (age 48) plays American jazz and classical music for trumpet. He also composes. Jazz at Lincoln Center promotes the appreciation of Classical and Jazz music with a focus on young audiences. Wynton has been awarded nine Grammys and was also given the first Jazz performer to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
