Here's an interesting Valentine's getaway suggestion for those whose fantasies include role-playing (don't look at me!) or those who'd like to reminisce and re-enact (up to some degree) their high-school romances…
McMENAMINS KENNEDY SCHOOL in Portland Oregon is a 1915 elementary school which was turned into a hotel. Rather than completely re-design the place like all the other hotels, the owners have decided to capitalize on what the building was originally meant for and used it to offer travelers a different kind of hotel.
Original chalkboards (yup, they took the hotel's theme seriously!) and cloakrooms were even kept, in the hopes of making sure that McMenamins would seem more like a school than a hotel.
And for your Valentine's getaway, the Valentine Overnight Special is available from the 9th until the 14th. The package includes: lodging for two, dinner at the in-house Courtyard Restaurant (remember how you used to flirt at the cafeteria), a bottle of Edgefield Winery's Bland de Noir, two keepsake champagne flutes and chocolates and breakfast the following morning.
If you have plans of staying longer — rather than seek out another hotel for the rest of your stay — you can simply get the Romance Package to continue the romance.
