After 16 months spend doing research and design, Discover America, the first official travel and tourism site covering the entire United States has been launched in the five key target markets of Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Japan and Germany. The site provides a one stop shop for visitors planning a trip to the US.

I really liked the interactive map on the site which you can click to you find information about regions, states and cities. I clicked on the state of North Dakota and there was introduction to the state with the phone number and link to the site of the North Dakota State Tourism office. Another page contained top things to do in North Dakota. There is also the option to add your own stories and experiences to the site.
I think that Visit America is an excellent tool for getting ideas and inspiration about where you could go in the US if you are open minded about your destination.
