The best beaches in Italy

If you'd like to find the best beaches links

in Italy, the online Italy magazine has an interactive map on their site showing the beaches which has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag. Only beaches which perform to a high standard on 29 separate criteria such as water quality, environmental management and user services are awarded the Blue Flag.

I noticed that here are several Blue Flag beaches at Livorno and Viareggio on the Tyrrenian Coast near Pisa where we'll spend the first night of our trip to Tuscany and Umbria. Hopefully I'll have time to visit at least one beach before we head inland to Lake Trasimeno.
