According to Frances Linzee Gordon of Lonely Planet, "…misery among Britons is at its worst in January". It's when we suffer from winter blues and get depressed with the thought that another year of work is facing us.
Well, we need not look at it that way.
Maybe thinking of what we can do and where we can go during our days off would help lighten the mood. And, believe me, we do have LOTS of days off from work.
Most of us just count our standard vacation days, forgetting the fact that we actually have a third of the year off from work. Yup, a third. We have 132 days OFF, without having to fake being sick. 132 is equal to 52 weekends, 8 bank holidays and 20 days of statutory annual paid leave.
Think of all the possibilties! Think of all the places we could visit, near or far.

I think that we Brits don’t realise how lucky we are with regard to time off work between bank holidays and annual leave. I know the British Winter is depressing long and dark but you have to enjoy your every day life too you can’t just focus on getting away all the time! We usually try to go on one off peak Winter sun holiday at the end of November or beginning of December, to break up the Winter. Last year we went to Madeira and this year Tenerife for around £300 per person half board.
Personally speaking I find that taking a lot of short breaks which involve flying or a long journey a waste of time as you spend the best part of 2 days travelling there and back.
