Many are surprised at the cost of living when they travel to Scotland. So if you have always wanted to head off to nearby Scotland at a much more reasonable rate, you should travel off season: from November to March. Airlines and hotels are offering great value for your money rates during this period.
Temperature in the Lowlands is usually moderate all year round. It rains a lot, though, but that is not any different than staying home, is it?
Should you choose to go in Winter season, you'll find that most tourists are gone and you'll get a closer look at the local culture.

Being Scottish I’m not sure about advising visitors to come in the Winter. One of the main problems is the lack of daylight for doing and seeing things in additions to the rain. I would say April to June is the best time. A good way to save money is to visit less well known destinations e.g instead of staying in Edinburgh, stay in Fife or East Lothian where there’s lots to see and do and you can still easily access Edinburgh by public transport. The other advantage is that you won’t just be surrounded by other tourists.
