Normally I wouldn't be caught dead at SciFi.com but yesterday they had a mouth-watering list of the Top 10 Gadgets for the Filthy Rich in their tech blog. Among the items listed are at $24,000 gaming computer, a 71-inch plasma TV ($70,000) and – a comparative bargain given the price tags of its companions – the $3,700 HDR-FX1 HDV Handycam from Sony:

My husband assures me that since this is a HD (High Definition) camcorder, it really is a bargain. He also told me that TiVo would change my life (it did) and that Snow Patrol were A Good Thing (they are) so I consider him to be a reliable source.

Personally I would never take a camcorder on holiday, with the possible exception of a trip to another planet. And if I had a spare £2,500 knocking about, I'd be in the Seychelles, not planning how to video it. Nevertheless, it seems to have an impressive list of features, the only one of which I understand is "Intelligent Accessory Shoe" which possibly doesn't do what I think it does.

So by all means, go forth and buy – you can pick one of these up on Amazon.co.uk or from a local retailer for around £2,500. Just please don't make me watch your holiday movies.
