If you're planning a visit to the US this summer, there are a few nature attractions that command any visitor's attention: the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Niagara Falls, etc. Yosemite National Park in California is on that list.
If you only have a few days, the vast majority of visitors explore the Yosemite Valley in the park – and leave it at that. The Merced River running through the Yosemite Valley creates some of California's most beautiful landscapes. But the park, designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, covers over three thousand square kilometers. If you can find a way to spend more than a few days there, Yosemite has a lot to offer visitors outside the parks core river valley area.
Yosemite is famous for its Giant Sequoia groves. These Sierra redwood trees grow to over 50 meters tall and have a diameter of over six meters. That makes them taller and wider than the Cedars of Lebanon.
The Sequoias are far from the park's only attraction. The park is home to a long list of birds and mammals (like mule deer and the American black bear).
The park is well worth a visit.
