The said warning is in connection to the recent violent killings of 3 people connected to the American Consulate in Juarez. US government employees are advised to pull out of Mexico. Travelers in general are not advised to go about alone, there is power in numbers. Be with your trusted friends. Americans are advised to register at the nearest Consulate office.
Finally, the bottom line is to postpone travel to Mexico until everything clears out. For sure you'll find a beter, alternative destination.
