Despite the bad weather and people around me getting sick, I seem to be in a good mood (seem because my mood might change if the weather worsens, lol). Apart from being excited with our winter vacation planned in late December (I received our tickets today, by the way), I'm also looking forward to the Weihnachtsmarkt which are scheduled to open either on the last week of November or the first week of December. Eventhough I've been to lots of Christmas Markets around Germany, I still get excited and still look forward to visiting each and every store, sample every Gluehwein and Feuerzangbowle, or just feel Christmas in the air.
Here are the three best Christmas Markets that I've visited so far.
1. Nuremberg Christkindesmarkt. The biggest and most famous Christmas Market is scheduled to open on the 30th of November until Christmas eve. If you find yourself in Nuremberg, you better try their spicy ginger bread, it's simply lecker!
2. Odenwälder Weihnachtsmarkt in Michelstadt. It's not as famous as Nuremberg, but it's equally beautiful. It's located in the old city of Michelstadt (around 70 km south of Frankfurt) right where the famous old Rathous (city hall) is. And while you're there, you can also sample the Ödenwälder Koch Käse (guaranteed yummy!) or buy jewelry made of ivory (don't worry it's not from elephant tusks). Also scheduled to open on the 30th of November until the 23rd of December.
3. Dresden Striezelmarkt. Scheduled to open on the 28th of November and will last until Christmas eve. While in Dresden, you can also try their famous Dresdner Christstollen (the original fruit cake) and visit Dresden's famous sites such as the Frauenkirche, Semper Opera House and the Royal Palace.

This is making me nostalgic, and I've actually got a Dutch Chrissie market right down the road...nothing like lots of fairy lights and a bucket or two of Gluehwein to help you get into the spirit of things!
