If you're considering a trip to the Grand Canyon this year, you should be aware that a little political drama has come to Arizona and it could create some minor inconveniences.

The Grand Canyon is one of America's most popular natural attractions. The Colorado River cuts the 277-mile (445 kilometers) long canyon across Northern Arizona. Hiking and camping are the most popular activities in the part. Whitewater rafting also attracts a lot of visitors. The park showcases the semi-arid desert features of the American Southwest.

In recent weeks Arizona has passed a controversial law on immigration and there have been calls nationally for a tourism boycott. The new law gives state and local police the authority to enforce federal law by identifying and detaining undocumented immigrants. Many civil rights groups are afraid that will lead to racial profiling. Arizona has the highest percentage of Hispanics in its population of any American state. A tourism boycott could interfere with some basic services for tourists in Arizona.
