Why Do People Travel?
Filed in archive Round Ups on September 12, 2007
"I want to see The world."
It's as simple as that. It's why I travel.
Let's check out the world wide web and read what others have to say.
"I'll be exposed to new ways of doing and seeing things. It will be good for me." - Amy Huberman
"...if your health and financial means allow, travel abroad at least once in your life. Then, once you are away from your familiar surroundings, look thoughtfully into the eyes of a stranger - even perhaps into the eyes of your enemy, if you happen to be in such a place - and then listen attentatively to the words he or she may speak." - Joel Carillet
"It's not just the food markets and all the wonderful things we find at them. It's also the folks we meet along the way." - Robyn Eckhardt
""Travel. Talk to everyone. Collect adventures, and use them to understand the world. That's how you learn to treat people well. And that's sexy." - P
And then, there's clairesu who has posted several photos on flickr and says that "the reason to live is to travel".
What about YOU? What is your reason for travelling?

I travel for pleasure - to relax, to have fun. I travel to see the world and collect adventures, to meet people, to learn their culture, so I can respect them with the understanding that my norms are not necessarily the global "standard". And, as sentimental as it may sound, I travel to learn more about myself! (http://lonelyplanet.tv/Clip.aspx?key=FA90DABF3A18B8EF)

I travel because I realize that there is so much out there that I don't know about. It's impossible to know even a good part of what the world is like without actually going out there and seeing it firsthand. Even if you read about the world every day, you'll never get an idea of what it is really like out there until you see it. I've made it my goal in life to get out there and experience everything, travel included.

People travel for many different reasons. Whether it be to escape the everyday grind to challenge themselves or even to stock up on a little bit of social currency (ego) compared to friends.
However, if you want to see amazing places along the Great Tropical Drive, endless experiences of the Great Sunshine Way and the world famous Great Barrier Reef, you can get it all in Queensland, Australia.
Just saw a great trip actually! Fly with award-winning Malaysia Airlines and discover Queensland’s ‘Greats’ with Travelbag.co.uk - 10 nights hotel and flights from £1079, book by 15 May.
First 100 bookings receive a FREE airport lounge pass in Kuala Lumpur.

Hmm...Why do people travel?
So many reasons. I argree with @michael Escape, social currency, and many more reasons.
I personally connect with the idea of social currency, because I love to travel in 'Style'.
Check out what Harper's Bazaar, Esquire and many more have teamed up to present. http://bit.ly/cney0u

Travel has always been the one thing I will sacrifice for. I’m pretty thrifty, but I will spend money on it, I will be inconvenienced for it, I will lose work time and money for it.
I love travel because it forces you out of your element. I think you’re like the best of yourself when you do it–you’re still you, but you’re in this realm of learning and being curious and enjoying and not worrying about the day to day, hum drum things. It’s like you’re really living.
