You'll probably have to book months in advance and travel off peak to get the lowest fares.

You only have to arrive a few minutes before you train departs and you're taken right into the city centre. The low rail sail fares are available at short notice for travel in peak periods. I doubt if you could find a £54 return flight to Dublin in the Summer. Of course there is the additional feel good factor of being a greener traveller.
