Zanzibar is a small cluster of islands about 40km off the coast of East Africa. You can get there on Condor Airline, KLM, British Airways, Swissair and Emirates Airlines. Most flights stop in Kenya or in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Besides the sun and sand, Zanzibar offers visitors a rich culture and a complicated history that ties it to Oman and Persia. The local people speak Swahili, though you'll find plenty of English-speakers.
