Travel to Israel provides a fantastic history lesson. Israel is a small country with an immense history, and the past here can seem to overwhelm the present as you travel form sea to desert, isolated kibbutz to huge metropolis and biblical sites to modern superhighways. It is the constant interplay between the past and present that makes the country such a fascinating destination.
A good place to begin a tour of Israel is in the modern city of Tel Aviv, which is close to Ben-Gurion Airport. Tel Aviv is the more fast-paced of Israel's two largest cities, and it is also the cultural and commercial hub of the country. Cafes and nightclubs here stay open late, and there are plenty of chic shopping malls and boutique stores on prime boulevards like Dizengoff St.
